New Residential Sales Up Slightly





The sales of new residences ticked upward in September a mere
0.2 percent over sales in August 2014 but increased 17 percent over
sales in September 2013.

The most recent economic indicators released jointly by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development show that sales of new single-family houses rose in September to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 467,000: representing a 0.2 percent increase over the revised August rate of 466,000 and a 17.0 percent rise over the September 2013 estimate of 399,000.

The largest increases of houses sold by sales price over last year were in the under $150,000 range, which also represented the largest increase month over month, followed by the $200,000 to $299,000 range.

The median sales price of new houses sold in September 2014 was $259,000 and the average sales price was $313,200. The seasonally adjusted estimate of new houses for sale at the end of September was 207,000, which is a supply of 5.3 months at the current sales rate.
