New Post-Emergent Herbicide

For the fight against dandelion, clover and other annual and perennial broadleaf weeds, Dow Agrosciences has introduced Defendor herbicide. It is reported to be available early this year, and is designed for use in the cooler temperatures of early spring. With the active ingredient florasulam, Defendor is labeled for post-emergent control of broadleaf weeds in cool- and warm-season grasses.

Defendor is a low-use rate herbicide that can be applied in late fall or early spring when temperatures are still cool, which is a time when other post-emergence herbicides might not be effective. It comes in a liquid formulation and can be tank-mixed with Dimension 2EW specialty herbicide for early season broadleaf weed control and pre-emergence crabgrass control. In addition, Defendor is reportedly effective at extremely low use rates, reducing the total herbicide load on the environment.
