The so-called peppermint tree or Australian willow myrtle is an outstanding street tree for its evergreen growth, mature height of about 18 ft. and non-invasive root system. The ?EUR??,,????'?????<?After Dark?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR? variety is a relatively small tree with a weeping habit, and attractive, maroon-to-purple leaves and a grayish-black trunk. Expect this variety to bloom in the early spring with small bright white flowers spaced along the stems. While the bloom period is short, the contrast between the flower and leaf color is spectacular. The species is a great tree for willow lovers and to include in plans for common areas that appear to be getting smaller and smaller as the need for quantity of development and building outweigh the need for landscaped grounds.
The new variety of Agonis flexuosa, ?EUR??,,????'?????<?After Dark,?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR? is produced by Briggs Tree Company, Inc. in Vista, Calif. The variety is being introduced in 15 gallon and 24-inch box sizes. The demand for this species is high and supply is limited among the landscape industry market. The San Diego County grower is stepping up and providing the tree in larger, ready-to-plant sizes to accommodate its customer base of landscape contractors and architects.
