VIENNA, VA-The Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards recently announced the availability of four new "diagnostic vignette" practice problems for the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (LARE). Six problems are available for the two graphic sections of the licensure examination for landscape architects.

Diagnostic vignettes give licensure candidates a preview of the LARE format and help them identify areas to strengthen before taking the exam. Diagnostic vignettes are formatted exactly like those in the LARE and come with the code and zoning information just as on the real test.

More useful than sample problems, diagnostic vignettes include a personalized review of the candidate's solution. After purchasing a diagnostic vignette from CLARB and completing the problem, the candidate sends it back to CLARB where it is reviewed for weaknesses, code violations, and health, safety and welfare problems. Candidates receive redline comments from CLARB about their solution, descriptive information about any errors that were made and a list of references that can be used to strengthen weaknesses.

The three problems available for Section C (Planning and Site Design) are "Site Planning," "Hardscape and Planting Design," and "Circulation Design." The three problems available for Section E (Grading, Drainage and Stormwater Management) are "Surface and Subsurface Drainage," "Drainage Analysis," and "Water Diversion."

The diagnostic vignette is now complete and ready to go to CLARB for review and redlines.
