After two decades of effort, New Hampshire Landscape Architects are getting ready to celebrate the state?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s first licensure law.
New Hampshire is currently one of just three states that have no legislation regulating the practice or use of the title, ?EUR??,,????'?????<?Landscape Architect.?EUR??,,????'?????<? In May, Colorado governor Bill Owens???????(R)???? angered LAs across the country when he vetoed a Landscape Architecture practice act. Vermont is the only other state in the country lacking LA legislation.
No one in New Hampshire seems worried that Gov. John Lynch (D) will veto that state?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s bill. This spring, the state?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s House unanimously approved the rule and the Senate gave it a thumbs-up with a 15 to 7 vote.
Landscape Architect R. Gordon Leedy, Jr. said the bill was headed to the governor?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s desk through normal channels. Once it reaches there, Gov. Lynch has five days to sign or veto it. If he does nothing, the legislation automatically becomes law.
?EUR??,,????'?????<?I don?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?t think there?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s an issue with the governor,?EUR??,,????'?????<? Leedy told landscapearchitect.com. ?EUR??,,????'?????<?He knows who Landscape Architects are and what they do. It would be very unusual for him to veto such a bill.?EUR??,,????'?????<?
Leedy has led the effort to pass New Hampshire?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s licensure bill with fellow Landscape Architects Randy Knowles, Anne Creuss, Beth Dermody and Greg Grigsby.
Local LAs have long chafed at the lack of state legislation, the latter said.
?EUR??,,????'?????<?There are about 50 licensed Landscape Architects (in New Hampshire) who have gotten licensed in other states,?EUR??,,????'?????<? Grigsby told Business NH Magazine in April.
Three previous attempts to pass licensure legislation in New Hampshire were derailed by opponents with ties to land surveyors and landscape designers, Leedy said.
