Landscape architects should keep an eye on their mailboxes. The Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards, or CLARB, is running a third "Task Analysis" survey to update the profession's licensure exam.
Approximately 6,000 landscape architects from the U.S. and Canada are being asked (by mail) to participate in the scientific survey, which will determine the knowledge and skills needed to safely and effectively practice landscape architecture.
CLARB President Sandra Gonzalez urges every landscape architect who is asked to participate to do so. "The success of this study depends on the willingness of landscape architects to take the time to respond carefully and thoughtfully to the survey," she said.
The results of the study will ensure that the subject matter in the Landscape Architect Registration Examination (L.A.R.E.) reflects current practice and remains a valid measure of newly-registered landscape architects' ability.
"The Task Analysis serves as a critical source of evidence for the validity of the L.A.R.E. and provides strong support for our position in the event of a legal challenge," Gonzalez explained.
CLARB conducted previous Task Analyses of the profession of landscape architecture in 1991 and 1998.
The results and impact of the 2005 Task Analysis will be announced later this year.
The Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) is dedicated to ensuring that all individuals who affect the natural and built environment through the practice of landscape architecture are sufficiently qualified to do so. CLARB's members work together to establish standards for education, experience and examination required for the licensing of landscape architects.
