Nevada county approves new water ordinances

Lyon County, Nev. ?EUR??,,????'??+ The Lyon County Board of Commissioners approved water ordinances for areas under the county?EUR??,,????'???s Utilities Department. The ordinance repeals an older more cumbersome water conservation section that was on the books.

The actions approved at the Jan. 18 meeting change the amount of water allotted for multi-family or manufactured homes in parks. This number was reduced to .45 acre-foot/year water rights, which was based on consumptive use profiles, with a .15 acre-foot cushion.

The rules will also affect customers by ending the practice of dispensing shut-off notices to homeowners. Seen as a staff safety issue, the new rules will maintain customer relations by eliminating any confrontations between homeowners receiving these notices and the county employees charged with dispensing them.

The major change, though, was how delinquent charges were collected. Under the new changes, delinquent charges for water service will be placed on the customer?EUR??,,????'???s tax roll, and eventually a lien would be applied.

That total of the delinquent charge would constitute “a lien against the lot or parcel of land against which the charge has been imposed as of the time when the lien of taxes attaches.” Those delinquent charges would be listed on the property tax bills levied against the respective lots and parcels of land for the particular landowners.
