Recently more than 40 states have adopted National Electronic Code Article 406.9(B)(1) to increase the safety and integrity of outdoor receptacles. Several states have plans to begin enforcing the article this year.
?EUR??,,????'??States and municipalities will enforce this new code,?EUR??,,????'?? told Bellweather Communications public relations director Michael Isaacson to LCN. ?EUR??,,????'??Whenever you pull a permit for construction, the state, county or city makes sure the contractor will comply with the safety standards. It would affect anyone who installs electrical receptacles, whether they?EUR??,,????'???re landscape contractors, general contractors or home builders.?EUR??,,????'??
NEC adjusted the code in an effort to improve safety and increase the reliability of covered devices. Article 406.9(B)(1) states that 15 and 20 Ampere, 125 and 250 Volt receptacles installed in a wet location shall have an enclosure that is weatherproof whether or not the attachment plug cap is inserted.
?EUR??,,????'??They need to utilize a device and a cover to keep the receptacle and plug safe from water, ice and snow, which can cause electrical problems,?EUR??,,????'?? said Isaacson. ?EUR??,,????'??It?EUR??,,????'???s a fairly simple thing to do in order to protect the equipment.?EUR??,,????'??
