Mooresville and Gibsonville, two North Carolina towns about an hour and a half drive apart each are dealing with water restrictions. Currently Gibsonville is at a voluntary Stage II level while Mooresville is at a more strict stage III.

Two North Carolina towns are differing in how they are dealing with the ever-changing water situation. In Gibsonville, residents are on stage II voluntary water restrictions after the town?EUR??,,????'???s board of aldermen unanimously voted to roll back mandatory restrictions. Two weeks prior to this decision, the town?EUR??,,????'???s neighboring city and water supplier, Burlington went voluntary.

Voluntary restrictions allow outdoor water use, including irrigation.

The town went to mandatory restrictions Nov. 5, 2007 following the decision by the Burlington City Council to enact the water use ordinance.

About 90 miles southwest, Mooresville commissioners decided to hold off for a few more weeks on loosening their town?EUR??,,????'???s water restrictions. At a special budget work session, officials opted to wait until their regularly scheduled meeting to change the wording in the town?EUR??,,????'???s water ordinance.

The proposed changes will allow for irrigation by sprinkler for several hours each day during Stage II and with hand-held or drip irrigation methods during the current Stage III level.

The changes were requested by a local landscaping company, whose business has been negatively impacted by the water restrictions.

The commissioner, however moved to table the revision request, saying it was more important was being ?EUR??,,????'??good stewards?EUR??,,????'?? of the region?EUR??,,????'???s water. The revisions, line with other municipalities such as Hickory and Valdese, will be looked at again in April.
