Many people have seen landscapers planting and watering new grass and plants along Interstate 85 near Greensboro, N.C. Some called authorities to complain, but the contractors weren?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??t doing anything wrong.
People have noticed because the work and watering is happening during the middle of the day, during a drought and what appears to be a violation of Greensboro?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s mandatory water restrictions.
The scene is also noticeable because workers are also using water hoses similar to those used by firefighters.
?EUR??,,????'?????<????????People have to be thinking ?EUR??,,????'?????<????????it?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s mandatory water restrictions, what are they doing out there spraying water on the side of the hill,?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,???EUR??,,????'?????<???????? said landscape supervisor Steve Shive.
The grass chosen, according to Shive, must be planted now to survive through winter
Trucks full of water are used to protect the state?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??s $350,000 budget. Landscapers are buying water from the city and filing up tanker trucks from a fire hydrant.
Shive said they are paying the city for the water, and use an honor system to show how much water they?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??ve been using. Within the last two days, Shive said, they?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??ve recorded using more than ten thousand gallons.
?EUR??,,????'?????<????????The reason we?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,??ve been putting so much (water) out there lately is because we just put the material in.?EUR??,,????'?????<????????
Gilmore Plant and Bulb Company said it is paying for the water, not taxpayers.
Transportation officials said if the drought continues, they may stop some of the planting and extend the landscapers?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????EUR??,,?? contracts.
