Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is considering a policy that would mandate the exclusive use of native plant material for all its projects and roadways. The Oregon Association of Nurserymen (OAN) strongly opposes such a policy mandate, arguing that appropriate plants should be chosen based on site-specific conditions and planting goals. Yet, in an interview with LASN, ODOT spokesperson Mac McGowan clarified that the policy is in draft form, and is intended only as a set of guidelines for ODOT's own Landscape Architects.
