In honor of Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, Project EverGreen declared Nov. 8-14 as National SnowCare for Troops Awareness Week. This inaugural occasion aims to raise the profile of the program and spotlight the efforts of the initiative's volunteers, and military families and wounded and disabled veterans it serves.

According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, there are more than 3.6 million veterans with a service-related disability and many require assistance with their day-to-day routines. SnowCare for Troops, launched in 2010 in partnership with BOSS Snowplows, has provided 4,500 military families with snow removal services by 1,300 volunteer contractors across the country.

"SnowCare for Troops provides military families and wounded and disabled veterans with peace of mind and lifts a significant burden from their plate," says Cindy Code, executive director of Project EverGreen. "We're very grateful for the commitment of our dedicated volunteers and the continued support from BOSS Snowplow. The leadership they have demonstrated in support of military families goes above and beyond the call of duty."

Her organization considers that SnowCare for Troops is more than clearing driveways and sidewalks of snow and ice: it is a means to allow military families and wounded and disabled veterans to maintain their independence and go about their daily schedules.

"We are passionate about supporting active and disabled veteran members of the Armed Forces in whatever way we can," said Mark Klossner, director of marketing for BOSS Snowplow. "Supporting initiatives like SnowCare for Troops allows us to make this passion a reality, and give back to those that have given an immeasurable amount to our country."
