United States parks and recreation agencies produced nearly $218 billion and supported over a million jobs in 2019.
The National Recreation and Park Association has revealed that in 2019, local park and recreation agencies generated over $200 billion and supported over a million jobs that generated income totaling more than $60 billion.
This info comes from a report led by Dr. Terry Clower, who noted that the quality of life of recreation facilities is becoming more important for retaining workers. The study is a joint effort between the NRPA and the Center for Regional Analysis at George Mason University.
Kristine Stratton, the NRPA president and CEO, said, "NRPA is proving, through these economic studies, that local park and recreation agencies and their dedicated staff continue to increase their impact as engines of economic activity."
The study is conservative in that it does not account for increased real estate prices and other economic benefits provided by parks.
