The American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) kicked off National Landscape Architecture Month nationwide recently. ASLA chapters across the country are celebrating with public outreach activities to help kids “Discover Careers in Landscape Architecture,” the theme for this year.
The Cultural Landscape Foundation and ACE Mentor Program, both targeting middle school and high school students, have joined as partners in addition to the American Architectural Foundation. The organization has officially launched a scholarship program, “Redesign Your School: A Contest of Scholarly Proportions,” to encourage 9th to 12th graders to submit their vision of ideal places to learn in the twenty-first century for consideration of scholarships up to $10,000.
Allied industry groups have also joined in support. The American Horticultural Society, the American Planning Association, the National Building Museum, the Professional Landscape Network and the Urban Land Institute all join for the second year in a row. New partners include the National Wildlife Federation and the International Federation of Landscape Architects.
More information in National Landscape Architecture Month and on local events can be found at www.asla.org/lamonth/index.html.
