National Design Awards Presented at White House

The National Design Award for landscape architecture went to PWP Landscape Architecture of Berkeley, Calif. The firm is also the recipient of a 2007 ASLA General Design Honor Award for the landscape design for the office tower at One North Wacker Drive in Chicago (pictured), which includes a 40-ft. wide way that runs for a block along the side of the building. The National Design Awards were presented in the East Room of the White House July 18, 2007 to 10 designers and architects, including a landscape architecture firm.

The landscape design award went to PWP Landscape Architecture of Berkeley, Calif. The firm?EUR??,,????'???s work involves public parks, university campuses, plazas and private gardens.

Peter Walker, FASLA, the PWP principal, is perhaps best known as the landscape architect for the World Trade Center Memorial. The architect for that pivotal project is Michael Arad.

Laura Bush attended the design awards and commented about ?EUR??,,????'??design?EUR??,,????'???s ability to influence the way we live.?EUR??,,????'??

A lifetime achievement award went to architect Antoine Predock, designer of the Austin City Hall in Texas and the San Diego Padres?EUR??,,????'??? ballpark.
Adobe Systems, the creator of Photoshop, Acrobat and Dreamweaver software received the corporate achievement award.

The product design award went to Johathan Ive, a senior vice president at Apple. You?EUR??,,????'???ve probably heard of his team?EUR??,,????'???s products: the iMac, iBook and iPod.

The National Design Awards are sponsored by the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, the New York arm of the Smithsonian Institution.
