A large mulch fire in Newark City kept firefighters busy and caused over $50,000 in damages. The fire, which occurred at Hope Timber and Landscaping, was alerted to firefighters from a 911 phone call. The firefighters arrived to witness that the fire included not only mulch, but also manufacturing equipment. However no injuries were reported. Firefighters spent over three hours extinguishing the fire. The cause and point of origin of the fire are still being investigated. “We had to lay a significant amount of hose because the fire was way back,” Newark Assistant Fire Chief Bill Spurgeon said. “We estimate that there was $50,000 in damage.” “The crews did an outstanding job and worked very hard to put it out,” Spurgeon said. “The heat and weather made it difficult.” Source: The Newark Advocate
