Nicholas Hand Kurt Fromherz Michael Byrne Les Gehrels Nicholas Hand was recently elected President of the Western Nursery & Landscape Association. Hand is general manager of Southern Operations at Northland Farms, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Other Western Nursery and Landscape Association board members include: Vice President, E.B. Gee III of Heartland Nursery Co. in New Madrid, MO; Secretary/Treasurer, Bryan Kinghorn of Kinghorn Gardens in Omaha, NE; Ex-Officio, Eric Sjulin of Sjulin Nurseries in Hamburg, IA; and the following Directors; Cameron Rees of Skinner Garden Store in Topeka, KS; Steve Ritter of Ritter?EUR??,,????'???s in West Burlington, IA; Nancy Blecha of Blecha Imports in North Kansas City, MO; Scott Wise of Gard?EUR??,,????'???N-Wise Distributors in Wichita, KS; Jim Mason of Country Landscapes in Ames, IA. • During the American Nursery & Landscape Association?EUR??,,????'???s Management Clinic in Louisville, Ky., ANLA presented Kurt Fromherz, Sunrise Marketing, Hartford, Conn., its prestigious Golden Garden Glove Award in recognition for the work he has done promoting Plant for the Cure. • Rusty Girouard, business manager of Madison Tree Service in Milford, Ohio, was elevated to the position of chairman of the board of the Tree Care Industry Association. • The Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) has selected Michael Byrne, CLP, as president of the association for 2003. • Les Gehrels was elected President of the Iowa Nursery and Landscape Association for 2003. Gehrels is a native of Minnesota and graduated from South Dakota State University in 1972 he graduated with a BS in Horticulture Business. • Larry Thalmann III has been re-elected as president of the Mid-America Horticultural Trade Show Board of Directors. Randy Jasperson returns as vice president of the board and John Hendricksen was re-elected as treasurer. Kurt Meyer was re-elected as secretary and elected to serve another three-year term on the board. In addition, Greg Oltman was reappointed to serve another three-year term on the board. • John A. Allin, CLP, of Allin Companies in Erie, Pennsylvania, was elected chair of the ALCA Certification Board of Governors at its recent meeting. This group of nine industry leaders is responsible for ?EUR??,,????'??steering the certification ship?EUR??,,????'?? and meets twice a year to set policy and implement marketing strategy. • John Schwartz, an Amarillo Irrigation Contractor, was elected as the new president of the Texas Turf Irrigation Association for 2003. • Gretchen Beasley is the new Brick Industry Association executive manager in the administration division.
