Bryan Champion joins the Board of Directors of the Wholesale Nursery Growers of America, or WNGA. Bernie de Wit of Michigan-based Lincoln Nurseries is the new WNGA president. James Harden is the organization’s president-elect. The three were selected at this year’s Hawaii Convention and Learning Retreat. The WNGA is the growers’ division of the American Nursery & Landscape Association.

Greg Ammon of Ammon Wholesale Nursery, Inc. is the new Region II director for the WNGA’s Landscape Distribution Group. Ammon has formerly served as the ANLA’s lieutenant governor and as governor for the state of Kentucky.

Ruppert Nurseries announces a crop of 2004 award winners: Stan Clements, controller, gets the Achievement Award; field managers Oswaldo Reyes and Oscar Morales receive the Impact Award; workers Carlos Rivas and Jose Cruz capture the Crewman of the Year Award.

Brendan M. Fisk, B.L.A., joins Twombly Nursery as landscape designer, specifically involved in all aspects of master planning from plant specification to soil work. Fisk has a degree in landscape architecture from the School of Architecture and Environmental Studies at The City College of New York.

The California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers (CANGC) presents awards to the following: Peggy S. Perry, Ph.D., a professor of horticulture, plant and soil sciences and education director for the AGRIscapes at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, receives the 2004 Ron Regan Education and Career Award. Art Hanson, a teacher and administrator for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 34 years, receives the 2004 Bert Kallman Educator Award. Anton Kofranek, professor emeritus at the University of California, Davis who has been involved in the nursery and floriculture industries for 50 years, receives the 2004 Research Award for work in the nursery industry. Don Knipp gets the 2004 CCN Pro Jack Wick Award for dedicating special service to the California Certified Nursery Professionals. Sam Aberbom receives the 2004 Elmer J. Merz Memorial Award for outstanding contributions to CANGC.

Dr. James B. Beard is awarded Purdue University’s high honor of honorary doctorate. Beard has enjoyed a distinguished career as a scientist and teacher and is a world-reknowned trailblazer in the turf grass industry. Company founder and president Mark Moore is moving Green Earth Landscaping & Design, Inc. from Hackensack to Montville, N.J. The new headquarters opens Sept. 1.

Kurt Mandelik

Kurt Mandelik has advanced from national sales manager to Florida-based lighting manufacturer Luraline Products’ new vice president. Kurt follows in the footsteps of dad John Mandelik, who also worked for Luraline.

Darrin Woodis the national sales manager in commercial and industrial markets for Vista Professional Outdoor Lighting. Wood will liaison with national distributors, landscape architects, designers and lighting engineers.

Angela Howes has been promoted from administrative assistant to purchaser at Ruppert Nurseries’ Maryland landscape installation branch.

Michael N. Vanatta is international sales director and Stacie Zinn is marketing director for Environmental Turf.

Martin Taylor

Martin Taylor is vice-chairman on Syngenta’s board of directors. Taylor has been on the board since the company’s founding in 2000. He is currently an international adviser to Goldman Sachs in addition to being a director for RTL Group SA.

Jarred Hendricks, a Utah-based dealer for Village Lighting Co., wins a trip to Tampa Bay, Fla. for the Irrigation Association trade show this November.

Georgia-Pacific Resins, Inc. (GPRI) announces that James Wargo is technical service agronomist for NITAMIN nitrogen fertilizer technology. Wargo will coordinate scientific communications detailing the effects of NITAMIN Steady-Delivery fertilizers on turf, golf course and agricultural applications. Wargo holds an M.S. in pomology, or fruit culture, from Cornell University.
