Donald Eakes Dwight Hughes, Jr. Megan Carpentier Ed Zuckerman Ronnie Farrar

The Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) was recently named the 2003 recipient of the Irrigation Association?EUR??,,????'???s Partner of the Year award. The award recognizes a person or group that has made exceptional contributions or distinctive accomplishments in areas allied with, related to, or an integral part of the irrigation industry. Ronnie Farrar assumed the position of president of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, succeeding Randy Reid. Previously, Farrar served as IESNA regional vice president for the Southeastern region.

The ANLA awarded Dr. Donald Joseph Eakes, professor of horticulture at Auburn University, Ala., its prestigious L.C. Chadwick Educator?EUR??,,????'???s award. Eakes has spent the last 16 years devoting his time and sharing his knowledge and experience with landscape students at Auburn University. Dwight Hughes, Jr., owner of Dwight Hughes Nursery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was elected as the Region III director on the ANLA Board of Directors. As director of the Midwest region, Hughes will serve ANLA members in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and the Canadian provinces of Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers has named Megan Carpentier manager of government affairs. Prior to joining AEM, Carpentier worked for the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association in state and federal affairs.

Turfgrass Producers International (TPI) has announced that Ed Zuckerman was elected president of the organization. Prior to his election as president, he was vice president, having been first elected to the 11-person board in 1992. Art Campbell was elected vice-president, Warren Bell was voted in as secretary-treasurer, and new board members include: Norm DeBuck, Bobby Winstead and Bob Weerts.

John Schwartz, an Amarillo irrigation contractor, was elected president of the Texas Turf Irrigation Association for 2003.

Gretchen Beasley is the new Brick Industry Association executive manager in the administration division. She is responsible for the database and meetings arrangements and eventually will oversee the BIA website.

Rockscapes, LLC, has announced the appointment of CH Sales as the sales representative firm for Rockscapes professional landscape and irrigation markets.

Rick Baird has been named the Vista Professional Outdoor Lighting national sales manager for the landscape irrigation industry. Baird will direct the Vista sales staff and will oversee national sales efforts. In addition, Vista has named Robert Shields regional field technician. Shields will be based in Wilmington, N.C., and will cover Alabama, Georgia, North and South Carolina.

Simplot Partners has announced that Tom Breier will assume the Midwest North sales and operations manager position. In his new role, Breier will be responsible for locations in Downers Grove, Ill., and Roseville, Minn. He will work out of the Downers Grove location.

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA), which develops safety, quality and performance standards for consumer products in Canada, has selected Arv Hille, technical director for the Oregon Cutting Systems Group of Blount, Inc., to receive its Award of Merit for 2003.Landscape industry veteran Pete Johnson has been named the John Deere Landscapes area manager for Orange and San Diego counties in California. Johnson will oversee sales, marketing and operational activities, in addition to new branch openings and recruitment.

Ardee Lighting has announced the appointment of Legacy Lighting Inc., and Resource Lighting South as sales representative agencies for territories in Texas.

Timothy Shaffer, customer service manager for ALLscape, a division of JJI Lighting Group, Inc., has been promoted to national sales manager.

Wayne Water Systems has announced that Terry Atwater has been named president of the company. He succeeds Gary Heeman, who served for five years and is now president of Wayne?EUR??,,????'???s sister company, Campbell Hausfeld. Atwater comes to Wayne Water systems from General Electric, where he most recently served as business leader in the commercial and industrial motors division in Fort Wayne, Ind.
