Minden, Nevada, the county seat of Douglas, during Mardi Gras.

The Douglas County, Nevada Board of Commissioners unanimously approved changes to its sign ordinance, allowing A-frame sandwich board and magnetic signs, both previously illegal.

Some 30 business owners and representatives of the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce and the towns of Minden and Gardnerville attended a series of meetings and agreed the sign change was a priority.

Douglas County is home to some of Nevada’s earliest ranching and farming communities scattered along the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The county covers 751 square miles in western Nevada. The county towns are Minden (county seat) Gardnerville and Genoa (all in the Carson Valley). Genoa, settled in 1851, was originally known as the Mormon Station. The county’s other towns are Stateline, Zephyr Cove, and Glenbrookare at Lake Tahoe, just minutes away from the Carson Valley.
