MONTPELIER STATION, Va. ?EUR??,,????'??+ The investigation of President James Madison?EUR??,,????'???s home, Montpelier, has been recognized with the prestigious James E. Buchanan Award for 2003. The Buchanan Award is given annually to recognize contributions to the study and preservation of vernacular architecture and the cultural landscape. The 18-month investigation of the Montpelier mansion incorporated state-of-the-art technology and a nationally recognized team of experts to develop a comprehensive picture of the home of Madison. ?EUR??,,????'??Never before has such an intensive examination been made of a president?EUR??,,????'???s home,?EUR??,,????'?? said John C. Buchanan Award was created by the Vernacular Architecture Forum in 1993 and honors Paul E. Buchanan of Williamsburg, Va., who inspired many VAF members in the importance of careful fieldwork.
