Two $250,000 federal grants obtained by the state Department of Transportation are paying for the monoliths and a plaza with trees, landscaping, benches and more sculptures.
Tucson's old adobe houses and prehistoric ruins served as inspiration to artist Andrew Rush and three other artists who created the sculpture. The site for the monoliths used to be a Desert Inn, which was bought and demolished by ADOT to make room for ongoing frontage road improvements.
