Michael Mongon, a certified grounds manager (CGM) from the Fairview Country Club in Greenwich, Conn., was elected as president of the Professional Grounds Management Society (PGMS) during the Society?EUR??,,????'???s annual business meeting held on Friday, November 3 in conjunction with the 2006 School of Grounds Management and Green Industry Exposition in Columbus, Ohio.

The 85th grounds management professional to hold the office, Mongon succeeds Ellen Newell, CGM, of Arizona State University, as the chief elected officer of the 95-year-old green industry organization.

In addition to Newell, PGMS elected Greg Nichols of Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., as their president-elect.

Gene Pouly, CGM of the E.F. Pouly Company in Orrville, Ohio was elected vice president and Monica Higgins, CGM of Shadow Glen the Golf Club in Olathe, Kan, was elected as treasurer.

Complimenting the officers of the Society, PGMS is led by a team of volunteers who serve on its board of directors. Elected to the board this year as director-at-large was Ken Stanton, CGM of Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Mich. Members also elected John Burns of the University of Texas as the South Central regional director. Jock Robertson of E.G. Reinsch, Inc. in Arlington, Va. was also appointed to serve on the board of directors, filling a vacant director-at-large seat created by a recent resignation from the position.
