William Shinichi Yorozu, 92, a founding member of the Seattle Japanese Gardeners Association, passed away March 27, 2006, the day after a get-together of his extended family. Yorozu?EUR??,,????'???s open-heart surgery in 1998 had left him unable to walk and he resided in a nursing home
Mr. Yorozu grew up in Seattle and attended the University of Washington and Washington State University (WSU). In 1942 he earned a BS in horticulture from WSU, with a major in landscape design. After college he and his brother ran the family gardening company.
He was the general contractor for the Japanese Garden in Washington Park and helped build Pioneer Square’s Waterfall Garden Park.
Mr. Yorozu was a recipient of the American Association of Nurserymen’s National Landscape Award, presented to him at the White House by then first lady Nancy Reagan.
Mr. Yorozu is survived by his wife, Akai Yorozu (the couple were less than a week away from celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary); a sister?EUR??,,????'??+Stella; a brother?EUR??,,????'??+Arthur; and his four children: Christine, Joyce and son David and Kenneth. The two sons run the T. Yorozu Gardening Co. that their father founded.
