Hill received an education in landscape architecture at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. His education in landscape architecture, coupled with management experience in sales, manufacturing and marketing, led him to establish Hydroseeding of Wisconsin, one of the first companies in the state to offer that service.

He sold the hydroseeding company in 1994 and founded Landscape Equipment Suppliers-USA, focusing on the sales of Easy Lawn machines and supplies.
