Landscape architect Bruce McCrea, 53, who specialized in lavish theme gardens, passed away suddenly at his Sausalito home on Nov. 21, 2007. He had coronary artery disease.

Born Nov. 30, 1953, Mr. McCrea spent his early years on his family???~s kiwi ranch in Atascadero, Calif., then studied landscape architecture and design at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. He then worked as a landscape architect for the Howard Fields firm of Sausalito, across the bay from San Francisco. In 1995, Mr. McCrea and Robert Love founded the McCrea Design Group in Sausalito.

???Bruce had a distinctive vision that was uniquely his, but which he tailored to the esthetic and the needs of each client,???? Love said.

His garden work included the Treetops estate of Peggy Haas in Ross, designed around The Chronicles of Narnia, by C.S. Lewis, and the Old Grandview Ranch in Saratoga, Calif., featuring fountains, statuary and colonnades.

Mr. McCrea is survived by his father, Marvin, stepmother, Ethel, brother, Roland, and sister, Patricia.

A memorial service is planned at the Masquers Playhouse in Point Richmond on Dec. 15. Robert Love manages the playhouse.
