Steven Strom, FASLA (1948-2005).


Steve Strom of Metuchen, N.J., who taught and led Rutgers University?EUR??,,????'???s landscape architecture department for 25 years, succumbed July 28, 2005 to a bacterial infection while hospitalized for treatment of lymphoma, a disease he had battled for nine years.

Strom received a master?EUR??,,????'???s in landscape architecture from the University of Massachusetts and was a professor at the University of Wisconsin when hired by Rutgers in 1980. In 1984, he and Kurt Nathan, a site engineer at Rutgers, authored Site Engineering for Landscape Architects. In 1987, he became the chair of the Rutgers landscape architecture program and carried a full-time teaching load on top of his administrative responsibilities. He also began two study-abroad programs for students from Wisconsin and Rutgers to Italy and Germany.

He became an ASLA Fellow in 2002, was past president of the Council of Educators of Landscape Architecture and won national awards as an outstanding educator.
