Every son of an accomplished, well-known father knows he?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????ll always be judged and compared with the success of the sire.
The father was Edward Durell Stone (1902-1978), an American architect of renown. In the late 1940s and early 1950s he was the chief design critic and associate professor of architecture at the Yale University School of Architecture.
Just a short chronology of his work: Radio City Music Hall at Rockefeller Center, NYC (with Wallace Harrison and Donald Deskey, 1932); Museum of Modern Art, NYC ((with Philip S. Goodwin, 1937); the Stanford Medical Center, Palo Alto, Calif, 1955; the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington, D.C., 1962; the GM Building, NYC, 1964; and the PepsiCo World Headquarters, Purchase, N.Y., 1967.
Of the five children, Edward Jr. and brother B. Hicks followed in their father?EUR??,,????'?????<???????????????????????(R)?EUR??,,????'????s footsteps. B. Hicks founded the architecture firm of Stone Architecture, LLC in NYC.
Edward founded the landscape architecture firm Edward D. Stone Jr. and Associates (EDSA) in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. in 1960. Today the firm also has offices in Orlando, Baltimore, Los Angeles, and Beijing and employs 150 people.
