The Minnesota ASLA Chapter held its 43rd annual awards celebration and gala April 20, at the Science Museum of Minnesota in Saint Paul. The event theme was "Making Waves Changing Course." In addition to the awards dinner/celebration, there were all-day educational sessions. Seven awards were presented in the analysis and planning category; nine awards in general design; three communications awards; two awards in the "unbuilt" category; and a research award.

The "top" award, the Award of Excellence, went to Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, Inc. in the analysis and planning category for "North Minneapolis: Planning for Recovery." The Honor Award in that category went to Coen + Partners for "Hawthorne EcoVillage." The Honor Award in general design went to Damon Farber Associates for "Ramsey County Roseville Library." The Honor Award in communications went to Hoisington Koegler Group, Inc. for the "Metropolitan Council Stormwater Reuse Guide." Rome Prize Ross Altheimer, ASLA, LEED AP, of HGA Architects and Engineers received the prestigious Rome Prize, an 11-month fellowship that allows him to pursue his research in urban infrastructure and city design at the American Academy in Rome. He began the fellowship in September.
2012 President's Award for Outstanding Service Clinton Hewitt, FASLA, emeritus associate professor, Department of Landscape Architecture, College of Design, University of Minnesota, and former associate vice president for campus master planning, received the university's 2012 President's Award for Outstanding Service. The award recognizes his almost 30 years of campus planning. When he retired in 2009, friends and colleagues established the Clinton N. Hewitt Fellowship to celebrate his leadership and provide a financial award to landscape architecture students with exceptional potential. In 2011, Professor Hewitt was named a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Women in Landscape Architecture Student Leadership Award In recognition of academic excellence during their time in the master of landscape architecture program at the University of Minnesota, recent MLA graduates Anna Lawrence Bierbrauer and Kristen Murray received the Women in Landscape Architecture Student Leadership Award during the ASLA-MN Awards Celebration and Gala on April 20. The award recognizes the accomplishment of emerging women leaders in the field of landscape architecture.
