The Michigan Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architecture (MiASLA) has named Professional Engineering Associates Inc. (PEA) of Genoa Township Mich. its Landscape Architecture Firm of the Year.

PEA was granted this honor from the chapter because of its multiple award-winning design projects in 2009, including the therapeutic Garden of Healing and Renewal in Independence Township. Other criteria for the selection were contributions to sustainable design on multiple projects that pursued LEED certification, and community outreach and education efforts to promote the benefits of sustainable design.

PEA has been a multidisciplinary consulting firm for over six decades, but it is only in recent years the firm has made landscape architecture a prominent discipline within the company.

The chapter notes PEA has demonstrated a nontraditional landscape architecture firm can be a leader in design and sustainable stewardship.

In 2009, PEA contributed to dozens of projects in Michigan including:

  • The Motown Movie Picture Studios in Pontiac, Michigan at which Raleigh Studios is expected to employ over 4000 people.
  • The 79-acre McLaren Health Care Village in Clarkston, amongst the largest developments underway in Michigan, opened in May 2009.
  • Garden of Healing and Renewal project in Independence Township. The garden, says MiASLA, has contributed significantly to the quality of life for McLaren’s health care patients and broken new ground in therapeutic garden design. The garden is a 2009 MiASLA chapter design award winner.
  • and the ITC World Headquarters in Novi.
