Colonia Country Club, Woodbridge Township, N.J.

Colonia Country Club, located in Woodbridge Township on a 1.8-acre parcel, required a rehabilitation and reorientation of the pool area. The landscape architecture design of this facility included reconfiguring the pool area and adding a putting green, event garden, and terrace. Attention to detail with the decorative lighting and paving, as well as planting, was critical to this project's success.

Chimney Rock Crossing, Bridgewater Township, N.J.

Chimney Rock Crossing is a 218,274-square foot retail complex straddling two tracts totaling over 36 acres on the east and west sides of Chimney Rock Road at the Route 22 interchange in Bridgewater Township. From the conceptual design phase through site grading, plantings, and detailing for pedestrian gathering spaces, MEA's Landscape Architects were involved in all aspects of this redevelopment of a former industrial property. The landscape architects also wrote the Environmental Impact Statement, outlining compliance with myriad regulations, from flood hazard area and riparian buffers to stormwater management and soil erosion control, on a property with significant grade change. Owned by Regency Centers and anchored by a 50,000-square foot Whole Foods Market, the shopping center has already seen the openings of several other stores, including Nordstrom Rack, Saks OFF 5th, Cost Plus World Market, Blaze Pizza, and The Habit Burger Grill.

Lincoln Harbor Waterfront, Southpark, N.J.

The Lincoln Harbor Waterfront - Southpark in the Borough of Weehawken involved a landscape architectural design that included utilizing shoreline stabilization and waterfront plantings to create a public walkway and gathering space, about an acre long, along the Hudson River. The goal to take advantage of spectacular skyline views and create a linear park for local residents was achieved. MEA's charge was to develop a scheme within the requirements of the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway Guidelines and meet the client's financial program.

The Promenade at Warren, N.J.

The Promenade at Warren is a 208-unit, age-restricted, residential community built on a steeply sloping site bisected by two stream corridors. MEA's landscape architects were brought in to identify the constraints, prepare the initial concepts, and formulate the final layout to meet the developer's program while working with the site's features and capturing 50% open space. Amenities include a recreational clubhouse, swimming pool, a patio with an outdoor fireplace, two bocce ball courts, and a gazebo, as well as walking trails with bridges and seating areas. In addition to the geometry, MEA'S team worked with their engineers on grading, lighting, and plantings. Their efforts didn't end with just physical drawings, as the team was highly involved with obtaining the necessary permits required by the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection.

Raritan Town square, Flemington, N.J.

Raritan Town Square was developed as part of the Flemington Redevelopment Zone that included the former Flemington Speedway and Fairgrounds. This pedestrian-oriented Town Center concept preserved 50% as open space, oriented around a central green. The 69-acre site now includes 520,000 square feet of mixed-use space, including office, retail, restaurants, and a residential component. The site development also included the widening of Route 31, a major State highway. Coordination with the multi-disciplinary team of architects, engineers, and planners was part of the challenge.
