Maui Draft Conservation Plan Helped Out by Irrigation Industry

Increasing population and limited resources have led public officials on the Hawaiian island of Maui to create a water conservation plan. Ken Ota from Irrigation Systems Inc. has taken the point position for the irrigation industry by sharing current irrigation trends that maximize irrigation efficiencies. Ota worked closely with Irrigation Association to propose language to the board of water supply, which was given the job of drafting a policy. Thanks to Ota, the irrigation industry will have a seat on the committee charged with developing specific language for the plan. The plan is to be submitted to the county council in January. Opportunities to review and amend the plan are built in at six months intervals after adoption and after amendments.
