Making America "Walkable"

Currently, the BFA manages the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Clearinghouse for the USDOT. As such, the BFA is a center for information on all aspects of bicycle and pedestrian planning. Email your requests for information to bikefed@aol.com. Photo provided courtesy of Lake County Forest Preserve.

In 1989, the Bicycle Federation of America, Inc. (BFA) expanded its mission to support pedestrian safety and walking, and today, works to create bicycle-friendly and walkable communities across the nation.

As the only national organization devoted exclusively to advocating the needs of both bicyclists and pedestrians, the BFA routinely provides consulting services to federal agencies, state Departments of Transportation, and local governments as well as private corporations and other consultants. The BFA is not a membership organization; all income is derived from fees for services, grants from private foundations, and the sale of BFA publications.
