The Transbay Transit Center will be a multiuse building and link commuters to bus and train service and a proposed high-speed rail line. Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects are the project designers. The architects describe Transbay as the ?EUR??,,????'?????<?centerpiece of a new neighborhood, a hub of activity that nurtures complex street life.?EUR??,,????'?????<?
The Transbay Transit Center will be a multilevel glass structure spanning five blocks. It will be will be both a transit and retail center. The completion date for Transbay is expected to be 2014. The project is certainly a bold public project and a positive outlook for the new year, given that both the city and state are living beyond their budgets. In the first week of 2010, Gov. Schwarzenegger is readying his plan to close the state?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s $21 billion budget shortfall.
The project?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s capital cost is estimated at $4.185 billion and will be funded by local, regional, state and federal funds. The first phase, the above-ground portion of the Transit Center building, is funded at $1.189 billion.
The new terminal will be the anchor of a neighborhood of housing and skyscrapers. It will also include a shopping center and an elevated park.
