When the city of Wichita, Kansas, began planning for the makeover of its main street, Douglas Avenue, it needed adaptable partners who could breathe new life into its quaint Middle America downtown on time, on budget, and on vision. Now, key stakeholders from the City of Wichita, LK Architecture and Heartstone Concrete, are sharing why Wausau Made stood out as the clear site furnishings provider to trust. Simply put, it came down to going the extra mile to meet the needs of the job. "Wausau Made won the bid by having the best price, along with its ability to manufacture extra molds and increase production to meet the timelines required," said Jason Gregory, executive vice president, Downtown Wichita. "They proved themselves by delivering what was promised."
That fulfilled promise helped realize the promise of the renovated site. After completion it was nominated for the American Planning Association's Great Places in America, People's Choice Award. Wausau Made provided dozens of concrete planters, which possessed deceptive strength and were filled with beautiful, blooming buds. Wausau Made's full line of site furnishings includes numerous crash-rated, steel-reinforced security planters and bollards, as well as benches and chairs, tables, waste containers, signs and more - popular picks for small and big businesses, retail chains and municipalities alike. "Wausau Made did a great job meeting a difficult schedule set out by the city of Wichita, and the shipping department did a great job communicating and delivering," said Tom White, vice president of operations. "I gave them a very specific loading sequence on three different shipments and they nailed it each time. A giant plus was their ability to set the planters with a truck crane so that we had very little handling of them. The drivers were great to work with."
The new Douglas Avenue is a more modern and walkable space and now provides pedestrians with more opportunities to take in the "postcard image" of their beloved hometown, while evoking memories of its famed past.
