Since 1977, the University of Virginia has managed a memorial tree program for individuals or groups who would like to fund the planting of a tree as a memorial to living or deceased alumni, families and friends connected with the university. Many unusual tree species and spectacular mature specimens are thriving on the university grounds today because of these donations by alumni and friends.
These beautiful and enduring trees add another dimension to the beauty of the campus, providing a safe habitat for small animals while honoring the long-standing tradition of ?EUR??,,????'?????<?giving something back?EUR??,,????'?????<? to our universities.
Following is a partial list of donors of private funds toward memorial trees planted on the UV grounds.
Note to landscape superintendents: In every issue of Landscape Superintendent and Maintenance Professional magazine we will recognize the stewardship of professionals in our industry. Please forward us information on the donations of funds, time, materials and energy toward civic, community and educational causes. Send a project description with available images to Jodie Carter, regional editor, at jcarter@landscapearchitect.com.
