Low-Maintenance Kentucky Bluegrass

The Cutting Edge Kentucky bluegrass seed blend promises that contractors will only have to cut and fertilize client lawns twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall depending on weather conditions. This is according to Andrew Blank, owner of Hudson's Organic Mulch and Landscape Supply of New England.

The seed was tested by several national turf evaluators, and is said to grow to a total height of about 3-1/2-inches and then it stops growing.

Although Blank said the Cutting Edge grass seed is more expensive than other seeds, with limited mowing, fertilizing and watering, homeowners can save between 75 and 95 percent of what they spend on their lawn care each year. A 25-pound bag of Cutting Edge seed costs $169.

Cutting Edge grass seed requires little to no maintenance. Also, according to Blank, the seed is endophyte-enhanced; this keeps grass killing insects away, and is resistant to gray leaf spot disease, an incurable disease which causes lawns to become brown and crunchy.
