Lightweight Clay Aggregate

Expanded clay lightweight aggregates permit landscape contractors to shore-up unstable ground, turf and athletic field areas, waterways, etc. It has been used on such high profile sites as Atlanta's Turner Field as well as geotechnical sites and comes with LEED credits.

With a blend of aggregate-based HydRocks and ERTH Food, a mix of clay aggregate, microbes and nutrients, aggregate applications can additionally prevent storm water run-off at sites.

Big River Industries is the nation's largest producer of high-quality expanded clay lightweight aggregate. In a rotary kiln, selectively mined clay is fired at temperatures of approximately 2000 degrees F, producing a lightweight, ceramic aggregate. The aggregate is then processed to precise gradations, resulting in a high-quality, lightweight compound that is inert, durable, free-draining, and environmentally friendly. The aggregate is extremely easy to handle and provides economical long term solutions for horticulture, landscape, geotechnical, building / construction and engineering challenges.

Some high-profile landscape / build applications include the turf at Soldier Field, Busch Stadium, Atlanta's Turner Field, the Picardy Interchange, Meadowbrooke Golf Course, Chicago City Hall, University of Central Florida, the new 9th Ward in New Orleans, and several other New Orleans reconstruction efforts (including Brad Pitt's ''Build it Right'' Foundation) such as canals, levees, and others.
