License Required To Work In City

In an attempt to protect legal jobs, as well as to protect the community from uninsured, unlicensed landscape contractors, Coshocton City, Ohio, is establishing a contractor registration policy for the city.

The mayor stated that the registration is to protect residents from unlicensed, unsafe contractors and to make sure contractors are paying required income taxes.

"The main thing is protecting the consumer -- that's what this is all about in any community," Councilman Tom Grier said.

The registration would apply to any contractors working within city limits, even those located outside the city.

Applications must be completed at the mayor's office, and those applying must show proof of worker's compensation, liability insurance and applicable state licenses.

Penalty amounts are being researched by the mayor and law director's office. A section regarding penalty fees and litigation for those that don't register is expected to be added.
