The City of Yonkers is in its third year of banning gas-fueled leaf blowers from June 1st to September 30th. The rationale behind the ordinance is decreased air pollution.
According to local sources, landscape contractors who violate the ban receive a summons and face a $250 fine.
Similar, and in some cases stricter, bans have been enacted in neighboring municipalities. For more information see ?EUR??,,????'?????<?????????????????NY Leaf Blower Ban?EUR??,,????'?????<????????????????? (https://www.landscapearchitect.com/research/article/10859).
With the possible legal precedents for similar restrictions elsewhere created by these bans, landscape contractors could have to deal with the decreased productivity of some alternate cleanup equipment in the future. Urging the various professional associations nationwide to lobby for the rescinding or revision of such bans is one course of action for professionals to consider.
Landscape contractors could also take advantage if pending federal legislation is enacted to partially offset the costs of purchasing alternative fuel blowers.
