Leaf Blower Ban Enters 3rd Year

A Yonkers ban on gas-powered leaf blowers recently entered its third year. Landscape contractors could both avoid the potential loss in productivity associated with returning to rakes and possibly reduce overhead with a federal tax credit by purchasing certain alternative fuel equipment.


The City of Yonkers is in its third year of banning gas-fueled leaf blowers from June 1st to September 30th. The rationale behind the ordinance is decreased air pollution.

According to local sources, landscape contractors who violate the ban receive a summons and face a $250 fine.

With the possible legal precedents for similar restrictions elsewhere created by these bans, landscape contractors could have to deal with the decreased productivity of some alternate cleanup equipment in the future.
