Atelier, Silver Spring, Maryland
A: The Atelier is a four-story, stepped building surrounding a courtyard with a splash pool that converts into a water feature at night to generate white noise for adjacent rental units. The courtyard also contains an outdoor kitchen area, an arbor with a fireplace and outdoor TV, and bio-retention plantings. A second courtyard has a multi-function lawn area with an oversized chess board, two arbors with casual seating, and an outdoor grilling area. A rooftop features a chaise lounge seating area, multiple shade sails, a firepit, and an outdoor TV area with casual seating. LD7 Studio provided all aspects of landscape architecture.
277 S. Washington,
Alexandria, VA
B: LD7 Studio was responsible for the conceptual design and construction documents for the rooftop terrace. LD7 Studio designed many casual seating opportunities on the terrace and specified wood plank porcelain pavers to define building entrance areas. Square porcelain pavers differentiate seating areas from general circulation areas while movable planters provide some privacy. LD7 Studio also designed a large, louvered pavilion with breakout areas below for tenant use. A mixture of dining and bar-height tables were placed along the cable railing, offering outstanding views of Old Town Alexandria and National Harbor.
2U Headquarters, Lanham, Maryland
C: 2U tasked LD7 Studio with transforming an existing vehicular drop-off area into a creative outdoor space. Paving materials, wood surfaces, and site amenities were selected, to create a seamless transition from interior to exterior to enhance the office atmosphere and encourage creativity and innovation. Various seating groups and styles encourage employee interaction, and a large function lawn allows for games as well as social events.
Ginguite Creek, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
