Arv Hille


The Canadian Standards Association (CSA), which develops safety, quality and performance standards for consumer products in Canada, has selected Arv Hille, technical director for the Oregon Cutting Systems Group of Blount, Inc., to receive its Award of Merit for 2003.






Russell Mitchell


Irrigation designer Russell Mitchell has been presented with the Edwin J. Hunter Achievement Award for his leadership and lifetime service to the landscape industry. The award was announced by Richard Hunter, CEO of Hunter Industries, at the distributor meeting in San Diego, Calif.

The Ohio Sports Turf Managers Association (OSTMA) announced the recipient of its highest recognition, the Founder’s Award. The award signifies outstanding commitment, leadership and initiative in the sports turf industry. This year’s recipient, Boyd R. Montgomery, CSFM, accepted the award at the annual breakfast meeting. Boyd is the facilities and maintenance director for Sylvania Recreation Corporation. He serves on the board of directors of the Ohio Turfgrass Foundation and Sports Turf Managers Association, and is the executive secretary for the OSTMA. He teaches at Owens Community College and does numerous speaking engagements each year at turf conferences across the U.S.

Houston Landscapes Unlimited has been entrusted by the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation to enhance the landscape areas around Houston’s Reliant Stadium in preparation for the upcoming Super Bowl to be held in that city on February 1, 2004.

Brighton, Colorado-based Environmental Designs, Inc., a professional landscape design, installation and maintenance company, has announced that Shawn Ryan, CLT, CLP, passed the Associated Landscape Contractors of America’s Certified Landscape Professional exam. This certification attests to Ryan’s demonstrated high level of competence and excellence in landscape contracting.

Jack Long


The Oregon Nurserymen’s Hall of Fame inducted Verl Holden and Jack Long at a recent induction ceremony.

Doug Halsey, Bob Jones, Mike Monde, Rich Schubach and Ken Thompson have joined Laytonsville, Maryland-based Ruppert Nurseries as partners. Ruppert Nurseries also announced the promotion of Jorge Torres to assistant nursery manager.






Jeff Marcinowski


Schiller-Pfeiffer, Inc., manufacturer of Little Wonder and Mantis Landscaping & Gardening Power Equipment, has promoted Jeff Marcinowski to manager of engineering and product development. Marcinowski has become an integral part of the Schiller-Pfeiffer organization since his hire as product manager in 2002, spearheading the successful introduction of the TruckLoader and SHO Blower as well as playing a major role in the acquisition of the BedShaper line.

The Association of Equipment Manufacturers will establish a Canadian presence by incorporating the operations of the Canadian Farm and Industrial Equipment Institute into AEM.






David Champagne


Gerner, Iowa-based Stellar Industries, Inc., has appointed David Champagne Hooklift product manager. His new responsibilities as a product manager will include introducing the appropriate Hooklift model loaders to adequately serve Stellar Industries’ customer user base.

CompuScapes is pleased to welcome Brent Totman to the sales and management team. Totman has more than 25 years of experience in the green industry and corporate information systems management. He will be based out of Knoxville, Tennessee.






Christopher Gray


Christopher S. Gray, Sr., joined EPIC of Wisconsin, Inc., a full service video and marketing communications company located in West Bend, Wisconsin. Gray will serve as a writer/producer/technical consultant on all educational and marketing projects related to golf course maintenance.

The Irrigation Association named Aqua Conserve’s Irrigation Scheduler as the “Best New Product of 2003” for landscape and turf at its annual conference in San Diego.






Ronald DeFeo


Ronald DeFeo, chairman and chief executive officer of Terex Corporation in Westport, Connecticut has been elected chairman of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers; Charles Stamp Jr. was elected first vice chairman; second vice chairman is Gerald Shaheen; the treasurer is Charles Martz; Dennis Slater is secretary. Allen Rider, AEM’s full-time president, was named vice chairman-agriculture; vice chairman of construction is C. Mike Simpkins

Brad Dozler has joined Lewis Seed Company of Shedd, Oregon. Dozler has 21 years of sales and marketing experience in grasses and legumes and will be responsible for the continued development and sales of proprietary varieties for Lewis Seed.
