The Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) recently presented its prestigious 2002 Exterior Environmental Improvement Judges?EUR??,,????'??? Award to Lambert Landscape Company of Dallas, Texas. The award-winning project involves residential landscape maintenance of an Italian renaissance garden that surrounds a stately home in Dallas.






Tom Lied


The Associated Landscape Contractors of America honored former ALCA president Tom Lied, CCLP, co-owner and CEO of Lied?EUR??,,????'???s in Sussex, Wisconsin with a special Crystal Ball Award for his development and leadership of the Crystal Ball Committee.

The International Erosion Control Association (IECA) has awarded its 2002 Sustained Contributor Award to Wang Lixian, Ph.D. of Beijing Forestry University in China. The IECA also awarded its 2002 Most Distinguished Technical Paper award to Francis Amponsah-Dacosta, Ph.D. and Emeritus Professor Geoff Blight, both of the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburgm South Africa.

Gary Clayton


The Professional Lawn Care Association of America (PLCAA) has appointed Gary Clayton as its new executive vice president. Tom Delaney, who served in that role since February 1998, has taken the position of vice president of government affairs for PLCAA.

The Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) recently announced that the International Landscape Technical Council (ILTC), the group that administers the Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) program (called Certified Horticultural Technician [CHT] in Canada) has chosen a new chairman. John van Roessel, P. Ag, CLP, of JVR Landscape, Inc., a Calgary, Alberta, Canada, residential design/build firm, was elected to the position at the annual meeting of the ILTC held during ALCA?EUR??,,????'???s Green Industry Conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

United States Steel Corporation announced that Frank J. Lucchino has been elected to the company?EUR??,,????'???s board of directors. Lucchino, 63, previously served on the board of directors of National Steel Corporation and the board of directors of Allegheny Teledyne Incorporated.






Christopher Davitt


Ruppert Nurseries, based in Laytonsville, Md., has announced that Christopher Davitt has ben promoted to company president and chief operating officer. Ruppert Nurseries, Inc., is a 300-acre wholesale nursery in Montgomery County that provides commercial and high-end residential landscape installation and large tree-planting services.

Rain Bird recently appointed Steve Sharp as marketing manager for the contractor division. Sharp will work form the contractor division headquarters in Asuza, Calif.






Doug Tegtmeier


Encore Manufacturing Co. national sales manager Doug Tegtmeier has been named a vice president and secretary/treasurer of the Encore Board of Directors.

Industry veteran John Meyer has been named national accounts manager for Simplot Partners. He is responsible for the development and implementation of sales programs for national accounts and golf course management companies. Simplot Partners has also announced that Tim Kehoe has joined the company as a sales representative. In his new role, Kehoe will be focusing on developing the commerical lawn care and landscape maintenance business in the Chicagoland area.

Permlight has announced that Manuel Lynch will join the company as President, CEO and Director. Lynch replaces James F. George who assumes the duties of Chairman of the Board and will remain active as the industry?EUR??,,????'???s leading political voice, responsible for assisting in molding policy to accelerate adoption of LEDs. Permlight is the current market leader in thermally managed LED products and lighting systems.

Victory Tooling, with Don Hollenbock, president, has been named to associate membership in the prestigious Manufacturers?EUR??,,????'??? Agents Nataional Association (MANA).

Carefree Tire L.L.C. has expanded its nationwide marketing capabilities with the appointment of Norman Smythe as marketing manager.






Howard May


Textron Golf, Turf & Specialty Products appointed Howard May as Senior Vice President Operations, at the company’s Charlotte, N.C. office. May comes to the division with more than 20 years of manufacturing and operations management experience at various Textron locations.

The Rouse Company of Columbia, Maryland, is the 2002 recipient of the prestigious Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) Landscape Contribution Award. This award was established by ALCA in 1986.
