Well-designed tree planting accessories can make a big difference in tree health and survival. One reason is that many cultivated trees are planted in soil and climate conditions they did not evolve in. Consequently, maintenance people can play a big role in tree survival by choosing and using accessories well.

Tree problems can often be traced to the following half dozen situations that handicap tree growth.

Types of Planting Accessories

Salt shields are made of heavy duty polypropylene waterproof material. All sides are folded over and sewn to create a long lasting finished product suitable to withstand several seasons of harsh winter weather conditions. A center portion is cut away to allow for fashioning the unit around a tree/shrub base. Once placed around a tree/shrub the unit is secured together with a Velcro sewn-on strip extending from an outer edge to the center cut-out. The unit should follow the natural contour of the ground. Grommets are sewn into each of the four outer corner edges through which stakes secure the unit to the ground.

Most trees need a slow deep soak every week in the hot summer months, but dispatching water hauling trucks to refill the units every week is just not practical. Water-holding rocks with three internal water tank chambers which are individually and easily released are one solution.

Once a week, open a valve to allow a single chamber of water to slow soak into the soil over the roots.

Having to refill the unit only once for every three watering cycles is a significant budget saving, not to mention how beautiful your trees and shrubs will look as they are properly watered every week or as necessary.

Tree accessories can make a big difference. The trees on the left of this image received special care, including salt shields, tree root cylinders and mulch shields. The trees on the right of this street went without the accessories.

Selling Your Service

Property management companies are prime sales targets for tree-health solutions, due to the number of trees they are responsible for maintaining. Property management companies typically have a weekly or monthly meeting which is attended by the company?EUR??,,????'?????<

Group presentations are concluded by asking the individual managers for a list of their properties that would be good candidates for new products and services.

Remember to schedule site visits with your prospects and drive through the landscape site prior to the meeting to get familiar with specific tree problems you plan to address during your site meeting.

Your present and future clients will see the value of service and understand that it is not best to wait until the rest of trees on the property show the signs of severe decline before corrective or preventative measures are taken.

It is important to understand that trees often do not show immediate outward signs of decline, although internally they are depleting energy that is not being replenished. Where trees are planted in compacted soil and subjected to other site problems it is imperative to initiate preventative care. Therefore, propose service on all of the landscape trees.

It may be necessary to prioritize trees over a few years on properties with hundreds or thousands of trees.

You can also inquire about other sites your client is responsible for and propose additional products for those sites. Source: www.rziproducts.com
