The Ronald McDonald House in Phoenix received a makeover courtesy of members of the Low Voltage Lighting Institute of the Americas (LVLIA) from the United States and Canada. The LVLIA annual conference and workshops were being held in Phoenix and a portion of the weeklong activities included a trip to the Ronald McDonald House where time and expertise was donated to improve the outside lighting of the facility.
The LVLIA is a group of contractors, manufacturers, lighting designers, and landscape architects from all over the United States and Canada that have a common goal of improving the low voltage lighting industry worldwide.
Before the conference, members of the LVLIA requested a workshop that was hands-on. What they got was the Ronald McDonald House Field Project. Thirty-eight members of the LVLIA coordinated and installed low voltage lighting throughout the grounds of the house.
?EUR??,,????'?????<?We utilized our association member?EUR??,,????'?????<???EUR?s skills along with materials donated by member manufacturers to create a subtly and safely illuminated nighttime garden,?EUR??,,????'?????<? said Michele Swetesich, former president of the LVLIA. ?EUR??,,????'?????<?It was a learning experience for our members and helped out a great community organization.?EUR??,,????'?????<?
The three core programs of Ronald McDonald House Charities ?EUR??,,????'?????<???(R) the Ronald McDonald House, Ronald McDonald Family Room and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile ?EUR??,,????'?????<???(R) are focused on helping families in need. In 1974, the Ronald McDonald House program began based on a simple idea: Provide a ?EUR??,,????'?????<?home away from home?EUR??,,????'?????<? for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals. Since then, more than 10 million families throughout the world have benefited from the Ronald McDonald Houses.
Through relationships with local health care providers, the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile program brings cost-effective medical, dental and health education services directly to underserved children in both rural and urban areas around the world.
The Ronald McDonald Family Room program extends the comfort of a Ronald McDonald House to a hospital setting. Typically located just steps from neonatal or pediatric intensive care units, the Family Room provides an escape from the stress and tension of the hospital.
?EUR??,,????'?????<?We wanted to provide a serene and beautiful nighttime environment for the families who are staying at the house,?EUR??,,????'?????<? said Andy Vande Hey, President of LVLIA.
In addition to supporting the core programs, RMHC and their global network of local chapters in 48 countries have awarded more than $400 million dollars in grants and program services.
