Jody Shilan

New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association added to its board of directors November 2009, Jody Shilan, BSLA, MLA, was elected to a two year term as president of the association. Shilan has more than 30 years experience in the green industry working as a designer, landscape contractor, educator and consultant.

Previously a director of the association, Shilan has been involved in the Certified Landscape Technician (CLT) exam, chair of the Education sub-committee and contributed to the NJLCA Scholarship Program. He is also a board member of PLANET’s membership subcommittee, a former board member of the APLD-NJ and currently sits on the advisory board of Bergen Community College, where he has taught for 10 years.

John David, owner of Prime Landscape Services in Santa Cruz, was presented with a lifetime membership for 29 years of involvement with the California Landscape Contractors Association. David has served many years on the association’s education committee and as a director in the local Central Coast chapter, becoming chapter president for 2010. He lives in Soquel.

Steven Jomides


Westwood based award winning Lawns By Yorkshire (www.lawnsbyyorkshire.com) Chief Executive Officer, Steven Jomides, has been appointed to the New Jersey Landscape Contractors Association board of directors. Since 1988 Lawns by Yorkshire has provided Green and sustainable landscape and snow services throughout New Jersey and New York. Lawns By Yorkshire serves multiple markets including multi-family.

IA member Brian Vinchesi was recently named the WaterSense???????(R)???? Irrigation Partner of the Year by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The award recognizes overall excellence in water efficiency and efforts that increase WaterSense awareness. Vinchesi was honored during a banquet held in conjunction with the WaterSmart Innovations Conference and Exposition.



Janet Moyer


For its second year, Janet Moyer Landscaping (JML), a full service residential landscaping company in San Francisco devoted to sustainable practices, appears on the list of the ?EUR??,,????'?????< in the San Francisco Bay Area as compiled annually by the San Francisco Business Times.



Bill Power


Helac Corporation, a manufacturer of hydraulic rotary actuators and construction equipment attachments since 1974, has promoted Bill Power from chief operating officer to president. Power?EUR??,,????'?????<

Vollie Carr, Jacobsen?EUR??,,????'?????<Ransomes as a product specialist in the early 1980s. He joined the Jacobsen team when Textron purchased Ransomes in 1998 and has served as our tournament support specialist since that date.




Sharon McGuire


Sharon McGuire, executive director of the California Landscape Contractors Association and the California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) is pleased to announce its Water Management Certification Program training has been approved for Continuing Education Units through the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET). PLANET offers a series of certification and training programs for the landscape industry to raise the standards of the profession while improving professional development. A few of these programs include the Certified Landscape Technician, Certified Ornamental Landscape Professional and the Certified Turfgrass Professional.

Facing the challenge of how to better build community and foster relationships with members, the Associated Landscape Contractors of America (ALCA) turned to online solutions provider Kintera Inc. to develop a new, interactive website for the association.



Carl J. Bower Jr.


Carl J. Bower Jr., a horticulture instructor at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been elected to a three-year term on the Pennsylvania Landscape & Nursery Association Board of Directors. His industry experience encompasses a variety of jobs, including landscape design, management and plant-pest control.

The California Landscape Contractors Association of Orange County (CLCA) has recently awarded local notable landscape contractors for a variety of honors. Richard Cohen (Richard Cohen Landscape & Construction), Andrew Baker (Ewing Irrigation), Steve Beckstrom (Tierra Verde Landscape), Steve Guise (Marina Landscape), Dave Horton (So Cal Concepts) and Bryon Meyer (Land Mechanics) showcase their plaques, marking another successful year for the CLCA Awards program.
