A Year For The Books . . .

By George Schmok

Welcome to all, yes welcome indeed
We're glad that you've joined us,
we're happy and pleased

For those that are with us, today in this biz
Have got through a year with plenty of fizz

It started off strong, with hope and good cheer
But ground wasn't cut, least that's what we hear

So most have pulled tight and circled the wagons
And fought tooth and nail, to defeat those dragons

Those dragons of doom
and those darn talking heads
So where will it end, when all's done and all's said

For most of us think that the future will hold
A better tomorrow, more bigger and bold

And after all, it wasn't all bad
There is change in the wind
and for that we are glad

Some of the changes have come from the green
Like catching more water and using it lean

And some of the changes are up on the roof
Where once there was tar, now there is proof

That even though some say the climate is whack
And some say it goes and then it comes back

The things that we think of
when challenged to think
Do make things better, least that's what I drink

So whether the weather is hot on your mind
Like places in Texas, where it's been unkind

Or weather the weather is wet and quite cold
It's time to keep moving, time to be bold

Yet while moving ahead,
take some time to look back
And remember the heroes
we have lost on the track

For some lost a mother, some lost a dad
For all of the losses, there's time to be sad

But that is not how they would want us to stride
They'd want us to take them along for the ride

Remember the good, the solid and true
Remember that they are now all part of you

So looking ahead at two thousand and twelve
Ok . . . Nothing rhymes with twelve . . .

So looking ahead at twenty one two
There is plenty to do for me and for you

Elections are coming,
there is hope that there's change
Like change in our pockets, and spending in range

And let's hope that the Mayans
were smart but just wrong
And two thousand and twelve,
won't be our last song

For next year the surplus is sure to run out
And ground will be cut and then we will shout

That landscape is good, the original green
Back up on top is where you'll be seen

So lift up your glass for two thousand eleven
It was one for the books and hopefully leaven

For the new year ahead will be full of good cheer
Good things on your docket,
good friends to draw near

And we'll see you there, the future is bright
Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night . .

God Bless . . Merry Christmas and have a great holiday season!
