Cool Things for a Hot Summer...

By George Schmok

As we roll into summer and start Q-ing up the dogs and burgers, start paying attention to win-loss records and finally putting the little league season behind us, there is a lot of cool stuff going on at LC/dbm . . .

May 1st marked the re-introduction of landscapearchitect.com with a wider format, video capabilities, readership and vendor profile editing capabilities and better product and article search engines.

Since then we've been spending a bunch of time coaching you'all on how to make the most of your personal information online.

Check your magazine label and you'll find your landscapearchitect profile password. Use it to edit either your professional profile if you are a landscape contractor or maintenance professional or your corporate profile if you are a vendor to the profession.

Readers (i.e. Landscape Contractors/Maintenance pro's) can go in and set your profile so you get the news and product information you care about, and don't get the junk you don't want.

Vendors can go and make sure when the readers (see above) are looking for products or services they can find you by name, category or product photos . . .

At landscapearchitect.com, now you are in control.

Seriously . . . Check it out . . .

And speaking of coaching, I just got through coaching a little league team that won only 3 games in the regular season (3-16-1), but came within one strike of making it to the semi-finals in the championship series.

I guess the point that applies to today is that even if the past few months have been a struggle, if you keep focusing on the basics and improving your skills, when the opportunity arises you can excel!

At LC/dbm we spent the past several months working on building the overall circulation and the way we collect demographic information. After a dozen years of growth LC/dbm is right there on the verge of taking over as the dominate magazine in the industry.

LC/dbm already carries more than twice as many ads as the nearest competitor and generates more reader interaction than magazines with 30% more circulation. But now we are poised to add to those numbers and put the hurt to those pin-stripes in ways they have never imagined . . .

Yep . . . The summer is really beginning to heat up!!!

Did I mention that LC/dbm just named a new editor to the team . . . A dedicated writer, focusing solely on providing you with the information and content you want and need as a professional in the landscape industry.

That's right, LC/dbm's new Editor, Bruce Fordyce brings with him a ton of experience in both publishing and working within the residential development community. It may take him an issue or two to get fully up to speed in covering the intricacies of running a landscape business, but this apple has not fallen too far away from the tree and soon you'll be tasting the fruits of his labor . . .

So as summer kicks in, design, build or maintain, this is the season of harvest for you landscape contractors. Get in the game, work on your skills and play your heart out to make this a championship season in every way . . .
