Redevelopment of Lawrence Technological Universities' academic quadrangle, opening in the fall, will be using many energy efficient and environmentally friendly technologies such as a living green roof and geothermal heating. The plan also includes the largest planting of champion trees in the country, which is aimed at using these old specimen trees and their genetic material to restore declining urban forests. Plazas, walkways, outdoor seating and plantings are included, as well as features for managing and containing water run-off, and the whole will serve as a living laboratory for Lawrence Tech's architecture and engineering students.
