After three and a half years, and several hundred thousand dollars, the mobile medical clinic is finally out on the streets of Los Angeles to provide medical services at no charge, to Los Angeles families who are homeless or very poor.

Designed, built and donated by environmental industries, inc., the mobile clinic is the first of its kind in Los Angeles and, possibly, the finest mobile medical unit ever built anywhere. Measuring 40' long by 11' high and 8' wide, it has three examining rooms, state-of-the-art, built in medical equipment, a laboratory, bathroom and shower ?EUR??,,????'??? even a computer to keep accurate patient records, and a TV in the waiting room to show tapes on child care.

?EUR??,,????'??We spearheaded the concept and built this mobile clinic in response to a growing population of homeless and indigent families, particularly those with children,?EUR??,,????'?? says Burton S. Sperber, a registered, although non-practicing, landscape architect and President and CEO of Environmental Industries, Inc.

Originally the mobile clinic was a cooperative venture between Environmental Industries, Inc., L.A. Family Housing Corp., and a major Los Angeles hospital. However, the project was almost aborted just at the time the mobile unit was completed, because the hospital underwent a change in senior management and withdrew. After all the time and money spent to develop the program, everything came to a stop.

Today, however, the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic, an organization, which provides health care to the homeless, joined forces with L.A. Family Housing to operate the unit. This allows the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic to increase its service area and to double the number of people receiving health care from 1,300 to 2,500.

?EUR??,,????'??It is our hope,?EUR??,,????'?? says Mr. Sperber, ?EUR??,,????'??that the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic will help us fulfill our dream, and the mobile clinic will focus on the City?EUR??,,????'???s children and prenatal care, ministering to the innocent victims of homelessness and poverty.?EUR??,,????'??
